Andy Hood

I get to chat to people who do similar jobs and there's the person and the professional. I don't really think that that's the case with Andy Hood, WPP's VP of Emerging Technology. A fizzing ball of creative curiosity, explored through technology, science and the outer reach of imagination.

Somewhere near the centre of that is Hawkwind, the 70's sonic adventurers who've been DIYing their way through the last half-century with music and sci-fi flavoured ideas that were never quite in fashion enough to go out of fashion. Andy and his podcast partner Matt have been running a fascinating series of shows that plot the course of the Hawkwind's craft, stop by stop and the footprints they leave.

I knew that I'd ask him to play his selected tunes as soon as I saw a midi controller on his Linkedin profile header, but I didn't realise that it was a bit of a busman's journey. Consider it a poor man's intro to the Hawkbinge podcast and a flashlight into a unique mind. I'm still trying to mend the bit of my brain that popped when he  tried to explain what happens when black holes evaporate. There's just nothing. Nothing

Zoltan, Dana Schechtrer's Insect Ark, Zappa and just one Hawkwind tune.

Find Andy on Linkedin and Andy /Hawkbinge on Twitter. Aw hell, I'm breaking every Hoxton protocol but check out the Hawkbinge podcast too, it's brilliant.
