Dave Dye
I can’t pretend that the prospect of a bona fide creative legend with such a cracking podcast of his own didn’t give me the jitters. They were needless nerves. My wife described him well – ‘comfy style‘.
I’d messaged him initially to let him know I planned to soundtrack a post he did on using album covers to explore brand campaigns, but a bashful ‘I don’t suppose you’d fancy coming to play some music…’ at the foot got a positive reply. Zoiks!
You know his blog, Stuff From the Loft, full of interviews with other adland icons, forensic celebration (Women Who Built DDB), the searing sincerity in his work and lovely projects that he takes on… He’s got a touch.
With that, his playlist is quietly brilliant. Forgotten gems plucked from a Bowie album you thought you knew, weirdly comfy awkward rhythm (Eno/ Byrne), a side of Grace Jones that you may not recognise. Dave Dye on my show: listen!
