Pete Rope

In 1999, when my business first got investment, commissioning proper branding and design was the first thing we spent on. I was in awe of ArtScience founder Pete Rope's boundless enthusiasm and fizzing ideas from the off. It was a massive step up from our rough and tumble DIY amateurism and it's hard to express how much I learnt from him and that process. I love this guy.

Pete's soundtrack is one of art student turned agency owner, who packed it in at the right time and took a new path: the heart attack didn't stop him, but faced with the prospect of sweeping redundancies after an agency-crushing client loss - when most of us would have flogged the perishing pony - he shut up shop with dignity. A year later, he's reborn as a brand owner, having invented Junko, a natty range of toy/crafts kits that turn card and packaging into toys. That doesn't do it justice - just look here.

You may have seen him on the telly being a much cooler Blue Peter/ Art Attack type (it's a crime that he doesn't have his own show), but today we do our usual desert island rip off with some work-life insights, but with a refreshing 'done that, now I'm doing this' point of view.
